Indian Catholic Youth Movement:

Background :
The Youth Movement in Mangalore Diocese was started in 1947 to organize Catholic youth with the purpose to involve them in Church and social activities. Gradually it developed and adopted the goal i.e. ‘integral development of youth’ and attended the needs of youth such as employment, talent exploration and leadership skills, media & journalism, promotion of spiritual and emotional health etc. To attend these and other needs of the youth the centre has started on employment agency and published a Youth magazine called “Amcho Yuvak”. Youth are organized under the National Level Youth Movement called ‘Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM)’.
Ministry In Mangalore Diocese:
In Mangalore we have 140 units of ICYM with a total membership of 40,000, spread out in Udupi, Mangalore and Kasaragod districts. Each unit organises more than 100 programmes every year in their respective localities and the Central Council of ICYM, based in Mangalore, awards 16 units for their outstanding performance at the annual general body meeting. The Central Council also conducts Leadership camps, workshops, awareness programmes, career guidance seminars, personality development, counseling, exposures, conventions etc and prepares them to respond individually and collectively to the needs of our society. Our social involvement is recognized by the media very much. Our programmes such as blood donation camps, medical camps, road repairs, house construction, bus-stand repairs, competitions for the public, distribution of books and uniform to school children, shramadhan, inter-religious dialogue, rescue operation, availing govt. facilities to the public, promoting local culture etc are oriented totally towards the social development.

8. Special Programme – once a year.
9. Programmes in collaboration with other Commissions

Today the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) is one of the biggest youth organizations in India with its headquarter in New Delhi. The Catholic youth of India are well organized and render valuable services to our country through this organization. The major thrusts of the organization are National Integrity, Environment protection and Religious Harmony. The Organization is started with a dream of building a new society on the foundation of equality, justice, peace and brotherhood
